ANCESTOR MEMORIAL CEREMONY

Thanks to our parents and ancestors we are here today upon this earth. We in Seicho-No-Ie are taught that we are the ones who chose our parents, not only they us. We were drawn to our parents through the similarity of our vibrations or wavelengths. When we realize that we were born in this world with the help of our parents and our ancestors, we become sincerely grateful to them, and we offer our thanks to them. This is the spirit of the Ancestor Memorial Service.

We are told that in the spiritual world, "words of Truth" are necessary to give spiritual strength to the spirits and to guide them toward a deeper enlightenment. Such words of truth are provided to residents of the spiritual world by their descendants who read the Holy Sutra to them. As the ancestors become more enlightened and grow spiritually stronger, their ability to protect and guide their descendants on earth also grows stronger. Consequently, thanks to the Ancestor Memorial Service, ancestors and descendants are able to walk the road to enlightenment together.
We read the Holy Sutra regularly to our ancestors with gratitude. This is very important. It is very important to conduct the Ancestor Memorial Services as a group. The blessings received from such group readings are indeed wonderful. It is truly wonderful to read the Holy Sutra in unison with a grateful heart. When read harmoniously, it gives rise to a great chorous of the Truth, which in turn gives rise to many wonderful miracles.
